Last year was a very successful year for Dahabshiil Group. We managed to attract new customers from all over the world, and we expanded our collaboration with worldwide business communities. In particular, we worked closely with livestock traders in the Somali territories to provide them with essential financial services. This was crucial because livestock plays such an important part in underpinning the economic structure of the Somali territories. We also attracted new humanitarian organisations as clients. We are proud to facilitate much needed aid and financial services.
Corporate social responsibility remained at the core of our activities. Dahabshiil Group always does its best to contribute to the communities that reside wherever we operate in the world. We continued to support the humanitarian, education, and health sectors across the
Somali territories and abroad. Among our socially responsible undertakings were our timely aid to the flood-stricken Beledweyn area, and the upgrading of libraries, teaching/learning facilities and conference halls at major universities. Recently, we started the construction of a self-contained compound that will provide desperately needed housing for the mentally ill at Forlanini Hospital in Mogadishu.
At Dahabshiil we continue to increase the quality of our services such as telecommunication, money transfer and banking, to meet the highest standards, international compliance, and the expectations of our customers. These developments, which helped create numerous jobs, have provided a solid foundation for the Group’s future. The year 2013

Somaliland Women Lawyers Association (SWLA) was established in December 2007 by five pioneering women lawyers in Somaliland.With support from the Access to Justice Project of UNDP,its head office opened in hargaisa city on January 15, 2008. UNDP hailed the association as not only “the first female lawyers association in Somaliland, but in all Somalia.” The main impetus for establishing SWLA came from the experiences of early women lawyers themselves: the plural legal system of Somaliland is highly skewed towards the interests of men; women were not taking seriously as lawyers; and what causes legal issue for the vulnerable groups of people is rooted with the lack of awareness of their legal Rights. With the somaliland’s judiciary in its infancy, SWLA believes it has a voice and the heart to effect changes and influence reforms with in the justice sector in Somaliland that will benefit the most vulnerable members of the Somali society.
